The overall goal of the Applegarth Volunteer Engine Co. #1 is the protection and well-being of our community along with all persons residing, working, or visiting Monroe Township. We are able to accomplish these goals through community education, prevention, and fire suppression. We also help our neighboring towns of Millstone, Hightstown, East Windsor, Englishtown, Jamesburg and Cranbury. Last year, our fire company answered 559 calls.

Our members come from variety of backgrounds and occupations. We are Monroe Township High School Falcons, college students, teachers, office workers, small business owners, New York Commuters, carpenters, farmers, gas attendants, current and retired military personnel, mothers, fathers, sons and daughters. We are fully trained and are 100% volunteer. Together, we proudly service our community on a moment’s notice: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days years.

We are proud to be community based. Last year, we delivered Santa to several developments, arrived at children’s birthday parties, educated our community about fire safety, and became the Charter Host for Boy Scouts Troop 60 of Monroe. Our Ladies Auxiliary held pancake breakfasts, ran toy donations for children, raised money for causes and much more!

The Benefits to Becoming a Firefighter

Becoming a firefighter is a very rewarding and valuable way to server your community. The skills you learn such as bravery, respect, safety, leadership, and working as a team will be used throughout your life. Our department offers an atmosphere allowing you to make new friends while providing the self-satisfaction of giving something back to the community.
